He was certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1982 and serves as an examiner for the oral boards of the American Board of Ophthalmology. He continues a busy clinical practice that he has had for the last twenty-five years. This practice attracts patients from around the world.

Dr. Folk has authored or co-authored 125 peer-reviewed articles in medical journals. He won the George Weinstein Award for Best Article in Ophthalmic Surgery for 1987. Dr. Folk was honored as one of the “Best Doctors in America” by Woodward White, Inc. He is a reviewer and member of the editorial board for the journal Retina.

As a world-wide expert in this field, Dr. Folk is in great demand as a lecturer and guest professor at many international meetings and academic institutions. At these meetings, he learns of new developments in AMD research and treatment, often a year before the study results are published, and has a chance to talk to the researchers and get the real dope behind their work. Dr. Folk is known as a very clear writer who can make difficult concepts easily understood.
