personality development

Contrary to past theories, which described the adult personality as a finished product completed during childhood and early youth, many psychiatrists who work with the elderly now think that personality development continues throughout life.
Psychiatrists now believe that every phrase of development throughout the life cycle is potentially important, each making a unique contribution. The psychic structure undergoes significant change from the childhood tendency toward normality and pathology, determined by the adult experiences.
