SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives)

The Service Corps of Retired Executives association, or SCORE, is an organization of volunteers made up of retired business executives and professionals who offer free counseling services to small businesses. Within the association there are some members still actively engaged in business or a profession, and they are known as the Active Corps of Executives or ACE. The volunteers provide counseling to small businesspeople on a one-to-one basis, or through seminars designed for those seeking advice about going into business. Typically, their clients need help in finding solutions to business problems, or they wish to expand their businesses but lack the knowledge to take the necessary steps.
SCORE was started almost 25 years ago by the U.S. Small Business Administration and now has offices in approximately 400 communities across the United States. SCORE members are all volunteers and serve without compensation but do receive reimbursement from federal funds for approved out-of-pocket travel expenses and for a modest level of clerical support.
