The reviewers are encouraged to return a critique of the manuscript within two weeks. After the critiques are received from the reviewers, the Editor forwards the critiques to the authors, without attribution to the reviewers. If corrections are required before acceptance of the manuscript, then the authors must make these corrections before the manuscript advances to the galley process. Please see this page for Journal Guidelines and Instructions for Authors.

Galley Process

After acceptance of the manuscript for publication, the paper is then assigned to an editor for publication. An editor will create and revise the galley. The galley process allows authors to review the manuscript before it is published in The Journal of Academic Ophthalmology. The goal of the galley process is to produce an error-free publication. The galley process is the time to correct errors made during the editorial process. The authors are ultimately responsible for the content of their articles. While small corrections to a manuscript are acceptable, major revisions are subject to re-review.

Correcting a Galley

Authors must tell the assigned editor exactly what to change and the location of the change in the manuscript. The original manuscript should never be modified and resent.

Authors need to describe the change clearly and quote enough of the galley that the location to be corrected can be identified by the editor. Citing line numbers on a page or in a paragraph is requested to help the editor make the appropriate corrections. Markup of the PDF proof is the preferred method for making corrections. Send all corrections via email to your editor.

An example of a correction:

Galley: The cells exhibit aytpia and and nesting characteristics.

Authors’ request to correct: In the discussion, delete the extra “and” in “The cells exhibit atypia and and nesting characteristics.”

After corrections are made to the galley, the authors are notified and asked to review the manuscript in its entirety a final time. After the authors’ approval of the galley, then the galley will be published.

Important Galley Details

The editors may embed questions in the galley to verify changes or specifics in a manuscript. These questions will be embedded as red messages, e.g., ( ***Is this the change you wanted in the final manuscript?***)

If errors or incorrect information is published, then an addendum can be made to the publication at the discretion of the Editor.

Editorial Review Board

You may download this page here (Adobe Acrobat required).

Copyright Transfer Agreement

You may download this page here (Adobe Acrobat required).

Instructions for Authors

The Journal of Academic Ophthalmology, is a peer-reviewed journal that serves as a national and international forum for the publication and scholarly exchange of ideas and information of interest to academic ophthalmology including medical education, resident and fellow training, research in health education, policy, and regulation.

The Journal is interested in publishing original education research, literature reviews, and by invitation or solicitation, editorial, historical, or policy perspectives.
