Creative Ways to Work Out
By Brooke Strickland

A lot of us use the excuse of “we’re too busy” to work out. But not anymore!! There are lots of creative ways to get some fitness into your days. We all know that exercise is good for us. It can help prevent heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and can help tone and strengthen bones and muscles. It also has the potential to:
* Lower blood pressure
* Promote healthy blood sugar levels
* Boost the immune system
* Increase levels of HDL (good) cholesterol
* Improve moods and decrease the development of depression
* Relieve arthritis pain
So, if you really don’t have time to squeeze in a trip to the gym or a jog around the neighborhood, try some of these easy, simple ways to get a workout in.
* Walk fast: Going grocery shopping? Walking from the parking lot to a store? Walk fast. Burn calories by walking at a brisk pace.
* Exercise at your desk: Have a desk job? Punch your arms over your head for 30 seconds, tap your feet, or take some stretching breaks.
* Socialize: Make your fitness routine something social by playing tennis, soccer, riding bikes, or taking a jog with a friend or family member.
Or maybe you could try one of these fun ways to get some activity into your regularly sedentary lifestyle.
* Juggle
* Climb a tree
* Dance
* Go snowshoeing
* Play tag or hop scotch with your kids
* Clean the garage or attic
* Landscape or garden
* Learn Tai Bo, Tai Chi, or Kickboxing
* Walk in place while you watch your favorite television show
* Wash your car or give your dog a bath
As you can see, being active does not have to suck a ton of time out of your day. We are all busy. But making fitness a priority by adding it into the routines of your day is not only important to maintaining a healthy lifestyle, but is also a lot easier than you might think.
