Thoughts as you start your first year of residency, fellowship, or practice.

As you embark on your new career as an ophthalmologist, begin thinking beyond yourself. As a college and medical student, you were encouraged to work alone and be a self sufficient island. I encourage you to begin thinking more of your business partners and staff members. This applies to residents, too. Consider your residency program as your first job. Work on building relationships and observe others to improve your leadership skills. Make the best of your year because after all, you’re practicing ophthalmology.
